About Forefront Physical Therapy

Leigh Hollowell, PT, owner of Forefront Physical Therapy, has 28 years of experience as a licensed physical therapist. Leigh earned her graduate MS physical therapy degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1987.  Prior to that time she had been a dance educator, gymnastics coach and body worker in Trager Psychophysical Integration.  Her BS degree is in Recreation Therapy from Indiana University.

Her development as a Physical Therapist has become advanced through 28 years of osteopathic and orthopedic manual therapy training and clinical experience. This includes 15 years of extensive continuing education in the specialty of male and female pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, pudendal neuralgia, and bowel and bladder dysfunction in women and men.  She has focused on treatment for people with abdominal conditions such as GERD, IBS and other pain problems using osteopathic visceral manipulation and biofeedback for 20 years.

Leigh also has extra training in the areas of Pediatric Incontinence and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. Her Forefront Physical Therapy practice includes treatment of children and adolescents with bowel and bladder voiding dysfunctions and/or abdominal pain. There is a large need for therapeutic services for these age groups.

Leigh incorporates a strong integrative approach into her Forefront Physical Therapy practice. She uses a variety of advanced manual skills (muscle energy technique, visceral manipulation, craniosacral therapy, and myofascial release technique) to treat the multiple body systems that are linked through fascia and the viscera, neural pathways and spinal and pelvic biomechanics,  She teaches her patients adapted therapeutic exercises including a new Pilates like approach called CoreAlign.  She uses Biofeedback for pelvic floor muscle training and autonomic nervous system regulation to help them understand and take better control of their pain, and related stress.   She is one of a handful of health providers in the Bay Area using Frequency Specific Microcurrent technology as an electrical modality for tissue repair and reduction of inflammation throughout the body.

Leigh believes that an interdisciplinary practice model is an important benefit for her patients. Osteopaths, internists, gynecologists, urologists and physiatrists, as well as chiropractors, acupuncturists, and other physical therapists to name a few, refer patients to Leigh, and consult with her on a regular basis as she does with them.

Leigh would like to acknowledge her great appreciation for the following teachers and mentors: Garvice Nicholson, PT, Peter Edgelow, PT, Alain Gehin, DO, Jean Pierre Barral, DO,  Paul Chauffour, DO and Linda Avery, PT.
